One thing you can do to improve the lining after firing it is to wet the lining, Then brush on a mixture of water, silica sand,and fire clay, Then re-fire the lining.

Hold for one hour. Heat up to use temperature with a rate of 100F per hour. I heated it up to 1500F. The whole process took a little bit longer than 16 hours.
